RFID—Radio Frequency Identification—is a generic
term for technologies that use radio waves to
automatically identify people or objects.
Since an RFID tag holds so much more data than a
bar code, we know that in time, with the
information demands of any supply chain, this
technology will be as common as bar codes.
Right now, we are in the initial adoption phase
of RFID. Industry needs skilled programmers to
integrate the RFID data into existing WMS and
TMS systems.
Once completed, the benfits are enormous—your
demand models are more accurate, receiving
becomes hugely easier, out-of-stock levels are
lower, and you can achieve a quicker remix of
your supply chain in response to events.
